Educational Use Of Touch Typist

Learning to type is an essential skill for students who use a computer keyboard. Students who can type properly spend their time being more productive, and, as a result, produce higher quality work than students who use two finger or other typing methods. Being able to type properly frees the mind to concentrate on the work itself rather than on the method of getting ideas into the computer.

Because touch typing requires no conscious thought, the student is free to think about the task at hand, leaving the fingers to work on their own at a sub-conscious level. Learners who can type properly tend to produce higher quality work which is more fluent than work submitted by non-typists, and their work generally has greater depth of content because they are not held back by the input method used to create their work.

Students who have not learnt to type see the keyboard as a barrier to their work, they see a process in front of them which is going to take up lots of their time. In order to minimise the time spent on a keyboard, students who can't type properly will usually produce the minimum amount of work required, or less than the minimum in many cases.

Touch Typist can be used as a stand alone lesson or it can be provided for the use of students who have completed their other work. Teachers often have difficulty keeping bright students busy while they concentrate on helping the slower members of a class. Touch Typist software can be used as a productive use of the faster students spare time while waiting for the other members of their class to catch up.

Touch Typist is used in many schools, colleges and educational establishments in the UK and Southern Ireland. The software is written by an experienced college tutor following both BECTA and BDA guidelines. The design covers as many of the FENTO standards as can be applied to software, which ensures that Touch Typist is suitable for all learners, and when using Touch Typist, learning is fast and enjoyable in both software led or student led learning modes.

Take a look at the 'Order' tab above to find a spreadsheet which will calculate the cost of installing Touch Typist on multiple computers. A trial of Touch typist is available to educational establishments in the UK. If you have any further questions about the software, it's method of teaching, pricing or have any other query, then contact us by telephone or email for a prompt answer to your question.
